Long Island Campus

Dear Member of the Class of 2028,

The entire St. Joseph’s University faculty welcomes you to our campus community and congratulates you on your academic successes and upcoming high school graduation. As a first year student at St. Joseph’s you will have the opportunity to choose, from among many options, a first year seminar course which will provide you with a strong foundation for your next four years.

SJNY-Brooklyn Campus

SJNY 100—First Year Seminar is a course designed to introduce you to the college academic experience through a liberal arts lens and in a small-class setting. Please explore this site and before you come to register in May or June, you might want to highlight several topics which have piqued your curiosity as possible choices. Visit here to explore! We are sure that you will have no problem finding course topics that intrigue you, whether they relate to your future career goals, personal interests, or your sense of fun.

In addition to focusing on the particular theme of your course, your professor will help you acclimate to the college learning experience, support you in your ongoing development of your reading and writing skills, encourage your exploration of new ideas and questions, and, in general, be there to help with the transition from high school to college. You will find the seminar-style class a place where personal interaction and participation are valued and are enjoyable.

See you in late August and please contact the university if you have any questions.

Sincerely,
Wendy C. Turgeon
Professor of Philosophy and Director of the SJNY 100 program on Long Island

and
Michael Hanophy
Professor of Biology and Director of the SJNY100 Program on Brooklyn
